A Fear Free Practice
Mt. Nittany Veterinary Hospital is dedicated to caring for your pet’s emotional well-being as well as his or her physical well-being. To help us achieve that goal, we are proud to have the first Fear Free certified professionals in the State College area.
The Fear Free experience begins before your pet even enters our hospital. If your pet shows signs of stress and anxiety before arriving at the veterinary office, ask us if pre-visit medication or supplements might help keep your pet relaxed. Would your pet be more comfortable waiting in the car rather than the waiting room? Just let us know, and we’ll be glad to accommodate you.
If medically appropriate, we’ll be giving your pet lots of treats during the visit. This is so he or she starts associating a trip to the veterinarian with good things! Bringing your pet into the appointment hungry can help this process along. If your pet is a picky eater, feel free to bring any favorite treats or toys. Our feline friends will also receive a towel infused with special calming pheromones to help them relax.
We promise to keep our voices low and calm and not use force to examine, test, or treat your pet. We’ll use gentle control techniques and innovative tools when necessary to ensure your pet’s emotional health isn’t sacrificed for the sake of medical care. We’ll also use specialized distraction techniques to keep your pet focused on good experiences while we perform procedures such as nail trims or injections that might cause brief stress or pain.
Happy and healthy patients are our goal!
